Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is responsible for oversight of the financial and legal matters of the school. The Board is comprised of a Faculty Representative and community members, with each member serving a three-year term. Board members are elected by vote as the terms of their predecessors expire.
Meetings are open to the community, though parts may require confidentiality. The Board holds monthly meetings and also convenes All-School Meetings twice a year, in October and May.

Meaghan Anderson
Board President
Meaghan studied French and Spanish at Pomona College and holds a doctorate in French and Comparative Literature. After teaching in San Francisco and Seattle, her family moved to Olympia and her children joined OWS.
Shanna Taylor
Board Member
Shanna grew up near the North Cascades. A proud parent of an alumni student and two current students, she serves on the facilities committee, PA, and Festivals and Fundraising Committee.
Shannon Kapp
Kindergarten Lead Teacher/Board Member
Shannon was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. With over 11 years of early childhood experience, she nurtures a sense of wonder through music, story, movement and reverence for the world.
Mindy Schaefer
Board Member
Born and raised in the suburbs of Seattle, Mindy earned a B.A. in Communications and Art, Design & Media in London. She provides bookkeeping and is mom of two OWS students.
Karl Beall
Board Member
Karl has worked in community mental health and therapeutic education. He holds an MBA and a bachelor’s in Recreational Therapy, and is passionate about helping mission-driven organizations thrive.
Jackie Walsh
3rd Grade Teacher/Board Member
Jackie was born and raised in Colorado. She graduated with a B.A. in Education and Behavioral Science from Metropolitan State University of Denver. She is the teacher for the class of 2029.

Brandon Bazemore
Board Member
Brandon grew up in Carnation, Washington, developing an immunity to mosquito bites, nettles, and soap. After a stint in the Marine Corps and a degree in Biochemistry at UW, he realized he wasn’t into getting yelled at or fixing people, so he started a business fixing technology instead. Brandon, Sandi, and their three kids moved to Olympia in 2019 and were fortunate enough to stumble upon OWS. He joined the board in 2022.
Kelly Horn
4th Grade Teacher/Co-Lead Administrator/Board Member
Kelly grew up in New Jersey and discovered Waldorf education when searching for a preschool in Olympia. Known for being especially gifted at teaching math, she has graduated the classes of 2019, 2022 and 2023.
Sweekriti Apple
8th Grade Teacher/Co-Lead Administrator/Board Member
A native of India, Apple attended Waldorf school at the Himgiri Rudolf Steiner School in the Himalayas. She graduated several classes at OWS in 2008, 2018 and 2020.
